Tips for Filmmakers

  • If you get the audience with a joke in the first 15 – 30 seconds, you’ll probably have their attention longer.
  • Shoot and edit for the punchlines.
  • Don’t be precious with the length of your film or sketch – does it need to be 8 minutes, maybe it’s only a 4 minute piece.
  • Don’t try and be comedic for everyone, make comedy for you, and if it’s funny to you, then it might be funny to someone else and then you’ll gain some traction.
  • Don’t scrimp on sound; it’s one of the most crucial parts of filmmaking.
